On 2 February 2024, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) released its Guide on AI Governance and Ethics. Comprised of ten member states, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, ASEAN codifies shared norms, rules and values and creates mechanisms for accountability and compliance.

The Guide acts as a comprehensive blueprint aimed at empowering organizations and governments in Southeast Asia to navigate the intricate landscape of artificial intelligence responsibly, providing guidance on designing, developing, and implementing AI. It also provides guidance for governments in crafting policies regarding AI within the region.
