NIST releases finalized documents and draft guidance on AI

On 26 July 2024, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced significant advancements in AI safety, security, and trustworthiness, marking 270 days since President Biden’s Executive Order (EO) on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development of AI.
As part of this, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) unveiled 5 key updates to support the objectives of the executive order. Among them were 2 new releases: the initial public draft of Managing Misuse Risk for Dual-Use Foundation Models (NIST AI 800-1), which provides guidance on mitigating risks associated with generative and dual-use AI models, and an Open-Source Testing Platform designed to evaluate the impact of various adversarial attacks on AI systems.
