AI regulation is becoming an increasingly important consideration for developers of the technology, with certain US states leading a national effort to regulate AI across a whole gamut of industries and use cases, but particularly HR Tech and insurance. In the USA over 300 AI related bills were introduced in the first half of 2024 alone, more than the total number in 2023.

With California being an immense technological innovation hub, there are several legislative efforts buckling down on various aspects of AI development and usage. One of the most recent proposals is SB1047- a unique bill that targets developers of the most advanced AI systems with obligations including an independent audit and creates a Frontier Model Division with the existing Government Operations Agency.
