In the ever-evolving environment of AI, recent legal developments have brought to the forefront critical questions about fairness, accountability, and the protection of rights in the digital age. The nature of the technology and the excitement around it has led to an explosion of laws and regulations being introduced globally to tackle the challenges that can come with the use of AI. In the USA alone for example, over 300 AI-related bills have been introduced in the first half of 2024 alone, already surpassing the total number introduced in 2023. There has also been significant regulatory action in the rest of the world, with the landmark EU AI Act being formally adopted, alongside major strides forward in the Asia-Pacific region. This blog provides an overview of the AI landscape over the first six months of 2024.
