Navigating the Nexus: The EU's Cybersecurity Framework and AI Act in Concert

As AI systems become increasingly intertwined with digital networks, their susceptibility to various cyber threats is heightening concurrently. Incidentslike the WannaCry ransomware worm and the Kaseya VSA supply chain attack reflectthe severity and widespread impact of cyber threats, and with the projected cost of cyberattacks forecasted to be around EUR 9 trillion in 2024, there is an urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity measures.

Acknowledging these threats and consequences, the European Union's forthcoming Artificial Intelligence Act (“EU AI Act”) represents a key effort to fortify AI systems and models with solid cybersecurity measures. Additionally, it intersects with existing and forthcoming legislation such as the Cybersecurity Act (“CSA”) and the Cyber Resilience Act (“CRA”), collectively reinforcing the EU's cybersecurity framework.
