How is Switzerland planning to regulate AI?

Policymakers across the world are increasingly moving to regulate AI to promote trust, safety, and fairness, with the majority of this activity centring in the US and the EU. Although in Europe the most major efforts are occurring at the EU level with the AI Act, which is currently under negotiations by EU Institutions to reach a final text to pave the way for the development of standards, some EU Member States, such as Spain and The Netherlands have also developed their own initiatives. As part of the EU single market, Switzerland has also been active in this space, with the Swiss AI report examining the use of AI by companies in Switzerland, including opportunities and hurdles to the adoption of AI. Based on this survey of 92 Swiss companies, new governmental regulations were highlighted to be critical to the use of AI.
