How is Brazil Leading South America’s AI Legislation Efforts?

Lawmakers around the world are increasingly proposing laws to codify responsible artificial intelligence (AI) practices, with much of this activity centred in the Western world, including Europe, Canada, and the United States. However, other countries such as China are also proposing AI laws, particularly to address generative AI.
In South America, multiple countries have published guidance to promote safe and fair AI, including Colombia's framework for ethical AI and Argentina’s guidelines for trustworthy AI. However, leading efforts in this region on the legal front is Brazil, which has proposed three laws to address AI, in addition to the Brazilian AI strategy.
