Over the past few years, across the federal, state, and local level, the US has introduced almost 700 laws targeting AI. Although many have died during the legislative process, several laws have come into effect, including New York City Local Law 144, Arizona’s election communication deepfake prohibition, and Florida’s Technology Transparency Act. Indeed, while much of the activity in the US is centred around the West and East coasts in states such as New York and California, states across the US are increasingly proposing laws to govern AI, including Colorado.
